About
Catherine Sauer
Catherine began her equestrian journey in childhood, encouraged by family involved in retraining racehorses, breeding sport horses, and practicing natural horsemanship. Her early dressage foundation continues to inform all her work in the saddle, though her passion lies in the sport of eventing.
Initially pursuing the instructor’s path, Catherine discovered true fulfillment working with thoroughbreds and offering rehab care. She has rehabbed horses for a return to full work after major surgeries with guarded prognoses, sometimes walking miles a day to the letter of the vet’s plan. Horses she restarted now thrive as lesson mounts, dressage partners, hunter/jumpers, and eventing competitors. Deeply committed to their post-racing well-being, Catherine became a barefoot trimmer and continues to expand her knowledge of equine nutrition management for a wholistic approach to care.
Catherine has ridden under USDF R judge Carol Bishop, USDF Gold Medalists Kim Litzwinczak and Silke Rembacz, USDF Silver Medalists Crystal Little and Claudia Novick, as well as multiple event riders, including Joy Horn Pharr, Dana Cooke, and Denise Goyea. She has thrived in diverse environments, managing facilities from 8 to 45 horses within various disciplines, including Atkinson Riding Academy, Scarlett Hill Farm, Stone Fox Farm, Stonebrook Equestrian Center, and Turning Point Show Stables.
In addition to her equine background, Catherine has decades of experience in large breed dog rescue and handling, offering hundreds of volunteer hours since her childhood to help rehome rottweilers and pit bulls. She has rehab and release experience with small wildlife, and cultivates a respect for all life wherever she goes.
